I am very confident that Vietnam will overtake us Malaysia before 2020. Their citizens are having the determination of moving forward and not looking backward.

Malay leaders in Malaysia like to see their folks contained in a chicken coop. They tell them that they are free and yet to be beholden to them as they are the ones providing them their feed.
They even believe that if they left the coop, they might be eaten up by the wily fox, and that they might otherwise starve to death.
The Singapore malays is in no illusions and they know they are out of the coop. They got to find their own nourishment and they got no leader throwing in the crumbs to them.
If they don't want to labour for their food, they can always go across the causeway and be given citizenship rights and take advantage of all the crumbs thrown at them. But most of them will not.

Majority of the Penang big government contracts is being awarded to the malay firms. What else you want! They get the same as other malays in Malaysia. The only different in Penang is, the Umno guys cannot tap the government fund into their own pocket, as other state Umno did. This is the main reason why they raised this issue.

The basis of how the Malaysia government works is based on the NEP, a highly flawed and self destructive (to most) system. We are citizens of a flawed system. There must be something wrong for those of us who grew up and indoctrinated on this low class mentality.
The crutches mentality and NEP have simply permeated too much of civil servants and the government.
Face it, too many people managing public education in this country have feudal mindset. Next to the police, the public education establishment is probably the most opaque and unaccountable.
We have principals and teachers who make shocking on decisions in schools on their own. We have administrators who make bad decisions on programs, schools, syllabus, teachers, etc.
Before we get a first class university, we need to get first class students from quality schools. Sadly most of the good schools have been decimated by who have become more engrossed with 'tudung' fashion than the quality of teaching.
Face it, there are many in the government that see education and skills the way they see government contracts - they need to limit the other races from it and to monopolize it. It is very much parcel and part of 'ketuanan' idea.
Their greatest fear is that non-malays would take what is available and run far ahead of them. In other words, if they can't have it their way, no one should get any either. It is better to spoil the game then let someone else win the game.
As long as those elements of the NEP inside higher education policy, don't ever dream on having first class universities. Second class is also out of our reach. Third class……….yes! This is what we are having now. Look at our local graduates that being churned out from these third class universities.

I grew up in small town when I was a kid and that was the best part of my life but this corrupt system has to be stopped somehow. Even if they are not money corrupt, the system is ideologically corrupt and unsound.

The malays have been Hindu and Buddhist from the beginning of time, and only became Muslim beginning from the fifth century. Most malay words bear Hindu and Buddhist influence, from Sanskrit. Arabic only forms a small portion of Bahasa Melayu.
'Bahasa' is also Sanskrit for 'language'. The British meanwhile, called the malays East Indians as opposed to Indians from India. They never associated the malays with Arabs.

The prime minister also lied to the people promising to eradicate corruption in the last election. We all know now that no one in the BN can be trusted, as they are all plagued with an incurable disease similar to aids called corruption.
Corruption has been practiced for so long, it is now one of the dominant genes of Malaysia politicians.
Umno with its system of patronage will simply collapse without gift outs - big or small.

See, the stupid Malaysia government spent so much of money every year on their education. I tell you every year public spending on education tops the Malaysia fiscal budget. After 12 years of primary and secondary education, they rejected those good students but admitted some mediocre ones into their public universities.
Why? Don't ask me. I also cannot understand. Apparently some kind of social contract signed 40-50 years ago. Malaysia government is like this, always half cooked one. Everything they do will stop or being cancelled half way through. Look at the Johor bridge!
They are good in primary and secondary schools, in fact their standards are almost Singapore standards. But when it comes to tertiary education, they are trashed. No way near us Singapore. Half cooked, about hen!
We in Singapore government only give some scholarships and sometime subsidize some loan interests to attract those intelligent students. These students will study here, do research here, and later graduate and work here as well. We only want those top knowledge workers. Human resources are all we have. Where Singapore got oil like Malaysia!
We really hope the stupid Malaysia will forever keep the current policy of supplying us everything we need - free. It is lucky to have a half cooked neighbour like Malaysia.

Chinese schools are open to all students irrespective of their ethnic and religious background - on one condition - the student must be able to cope with the workload.
Compare grade-to-grade, Chinese school students are much more competitive and mature than national school students. They score better in various fields such as IQ, math and science.
Most important, Chinese school students irrespective of their ethnic background are multi-lingual. Apart from their ability to read speak and write major languages such as Chinese, English and Malay - many of them also managed to master a couple Chinese dialects (e.g. Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew, etc) they pickup from their schoolmates. Isn't that wonderful?
In reality, Chinese school leavers are more adapt easily and mentally prepared to globalization.
When I was a student in the US - it is well known that Malaysians and Singaporeans are the most competitive lots among foreign students. Why?
Sharing the same cultural background, we can speak Cantonese to Hong Kongers, speak Hokkien to Taiwanese, speak Mandarin to Chinese Mainlanders, speak English to the Mat Sallehs and other foreigners - and best of all, we speak malay among ourselves so the rest of the foreigners will not understand of our conversation.
While I do not doubt merits of arguments from both sides, one thing is sure, Chinese schools generally produce higher performance students than national schools.
The students from day one are coached and coached to excel in their exams with never ending homework school days and school holidays while the national schools generally are more relaxed.
I think one have misunderstood DJZ. They do recognize the importance of English, but insist that there are better ways to go about it, such as adding an extra class in English or lengthening the existing English lessons or using the English language for the humanities.
During the 1970s, I gave free tuition in English to my high school students (all of whom had a Chinese primary school background), and when they accompanied me to the states, they'd no problems following their courses.
Several were even offered scholarships up to PhD level, although most started work after their basic engineering degree. Like the Koreans and the Taiwanese, their lack of an English background didn't hinder them from becoming successful businessmen or professionals.
One more point: I think the malay schools are also complaining about the problem of using English for math and science. Considering the level of teaching proficiency in those subjects, it would be appear to be more sensible to add more English classes or lengthen the English periods than to use the current system.
They DJZ fear Chinese will be wiped out. If these students are to be proficient in English, they would be top achievers around, knowing Bahasa, Chinese and English unlike the malays who are only proficient in Bahasa with a little English.
As an employer I would opt for the trilingual Chinese to the monolingual malays anytime. I may have to send him to China - the fastest growing giant of today and may be the bread and butter of many Malaysian Chinese.
Note Chinese businessmen from China are now expanding globally and generating communities globally. Don't miss this opportunity.
In a very difficult environment, all Malaysian Chinese must learn to adept and not cocooned with old traditions and pride.
If malays are not happy in Penang, just leave and go to the more developed states like Kedah, Perlis, Sabah, where you will not be marginalised.

Most political parties are "unbreakable". They will find a scapegoat or common objective/target to unite the party at all costs to hold on to power.
Who cares whether a political party is breakable or unbreakable. They are only there to take care of their members and party interest first, not the ordinary people.
The ordinary people want to see the country and people properly taken care of, e.g. effective and efficient government departments, fair policies, good public facilities and social welfare, increase public safety and less crimes, no corruption and etc.

I am very confident that Vietnam will overtake us Malaysia before 2020. Their citizens are having the determination of moving forward and not looking backward.
Do not look down on Vietnam mental strength. Even in chess, they already produced few grandmasters, while we still remain behind with some international master titles only.

I am not Oxbridge but postgraduate from one of the world's top universities (non Malaysia). I can easily reel off a dozen reasons why Vietnam will overtake us and sooner than you think.

I have worked in Vietnam, worked with them, have many I call friends, and I will tell you this - It is not a question of it but when! In fact we don't have to look at Vietnam, Thailand will likely achieve Vision 2020 which we already know we will fail.
Malay leaders in Malaysia like to see their folks contained in a chicken coop. They tell them that they are free and yet to be beholden to them as they are the ones providing them their feed.
They even believe that if they left the coop, they might be eaten up by the wily fox, and that they might otherwise starve to death.
The Singapore malays is in no illusions and they know they are out of the coop. They got to find their own nourishment and they got no leader throwing in the crumbs to them.
If they don't want to labour for their food, they can always go across the causeway and be given citizenship rights and take advantage of all the crumbs thrown at them. But most of them will not.

The problem with the Malaysia malays is their jealous attitude. If they are left behind, they will prevent others from moving ahead too! And sometimes even sabotaging others, and some resort the use to cast spell on others.
Not only the laid back malays are preventing their own people from being successful, but other races too. We also want the malays to be successful by creating value in the society so that everyone benefit but not by taxing the non-malays then give contracts to the malays, who will then deliver half-past-six service.

Majority of the Penang big government contracts is being awarded to the malay firms. What else you want! They get the same as other malays in Malaysia. The only different in Penang is, the Umno guys cannot tap the government fund into their own pocket, as other state Umno did. This is the main reason why they raised this issue.

Most malays in Malaysia hate diversity and discontent to the minorities, especially the Chinese. In blog, radical malays can be either extreme or pretentiously diverse-minded. Very few is genuine.

The so-called unity in this country is very much superficial. There are only two reasons why it appears this way to the outsider.
1. Anyone that says anything about the Umno-malay deems racial will be thrown to jail under ISA.
2. As general, people appreciate the harmony and peace in this country. Especially with all the terrorist attacks and wars all over the world.
As for a reason a true "Malaysian" race will not happen, there is only one. As long as the discrimination and separation of "bumis" and "non-bumis" exist. People will be automatically very conscious about their ethnic race.
The logic is simple, the more discrimination, the more conscious about their place in society and the more conscious about protecting the benefit of their ethnic race.

Let me tell you that, every year, there are thousands and thousands of Malaysians taking STPM (the most difficult exam in Malaysia) after finishing their SPM. These students, if they spend as much effort in London School of Economics from University of London, they all would have easily score distinction in every subject they are taking!

The basis of how the Malaysia government works is based on the NEP, a highly flawed and self destructive (to most) system. We are citizens of a flawed system. There must be something wrong for those of us who grew up and indoctrinated on this low class mentality.
The crutches mentality and NEP have simply permeated too much of civil servants and the government.
Face it, too many people managing public education in this country have feudal mindset. Next to the police, the public education establishment is probably the most opaque and unaccountable.
We have principals and teachers who make shocking on decisions in schools on their own. We have administrators who make bad decisions on programs, schools, syllabus, teachers, etc.
Before we get a first class university, we need to get first class students from quality schools. Sadly most of the good schools have been decimated by who have become more engrossed with 'tudung' fashion than the quality of teaching.
Face it, there are many in the government that see education and skills the way they see government contracts - they need to limit the other races from it and to monopolize it. It is very much parcel and part of 'ketuanan' idea.
Their greatest fear is that non-malays would take what is available and run far ahead of them. In other words, if they can't have it their way, no one should get any either. It is better to spoil the game then let someone else win the game.
As long as those elements of the NEP inside higher education policy, don't ever dream on having first class universities. Second class is also out of our reach. Third class……….yes! This is what we are having now. Look at our local graduates that being churned out from these third class universities.

I grew up in small town when I was a kid and that was the best part of my life but this corrupt system has to be stopped somehow. Even if they are not money corrupt, the system is ideologically corrupt and unsound.

The malays have been Hindu and Buddhist from the beginning of time, and only became Muslim beginning from the fifth century. Most malay words bear Hindu and Buddhist influence, from Sanskrit. Arabic only forms a small portion of Bahasa Melayu.
'Bahasa' is also Sanskrit for 'language'. The British meanwhile, called the malays East Indians as opposed to Indians from India. They never associated the malays with Arabs.
I have nothing against things Arabic. Arabic culture spawned modern technology and science, together with Indian, Chinese and yes, the malay culture.
But to make the malays 100 percent the product of Arabic culture, is to reduce them to an artificial people, a people without their own identity and history. It is cultural genocide.

I am a Malaysian who work and travel in both Malaysia and China over the past 12 years, spending about half of my time in China, so I am in a good position to make a judgment on some question: "Anti-Corruption - is Malaysia trailing behind China?"
The answer is "Yes".
Corruption? Malaysia is one of the most corrupted nation in the world as far as I am concerned. Thanks to Umno, Mahathir, and BN, Malaysia will continue to be corrupted and will rot in corruption.
The problem with this country is that, whatever these people touch, they screw it up - for personal, political gain!
The prime minister also lied to the people promising to eradicate corruption in the last election. We all know now that no one in the BN can be trusted, as they are all plagued with an incurable disease similar to aids called corruption.
Corruption has been practiced for so long, it is now one of the dominant genes of Malaysia politicians.
Umno with its system of patronage will simply collapse without gift outs - big or small.
Corruption under Mahathir has taken roots which not known insecticide could hope to destroy. Under Abdullah, the roots have been left alone to spread.
Look at how the BN deal with the famous one eye scandal, any more news or follow up, sorry - Malaysians all easy forget.
How can we achieve a transparent and accountability when BN can even set up the IPCMC. ACA is just a useless tool or maybe useful tool against the small fray but certainly not against the BN big fish.
No, this can never happen in Malaysia because corruption is one of the four wheels of the government machinery. Like a car, it cannot move with three wheels.
One more thing - We don't have enough prisons to accommodate all of them and the courts, due to heavy backlog, have no time to hear corruption cases. And Umno will collapse and disintegrate without corruption!

I tell you, every June of the year will be the happiest time for us in the Singapore government. Why not? There are plenty of free "capital" flows from Malaysia to Singapore here.
What I mean is the free human capital as in those brainy students who failed to gain entry into Malaysian universities. We in Singapore welcome all these students to study here, as long as they are good. We will provide scholarship, or some soft loan which they only pay after they have graduated.
This is really good business! We always go all out to attract these students. Why not? Let me tell you the mathematic.
See, the stupid Malaysia government spent so much of money every year on their education. I tell you every year public spending on education tops the Malaysia fiscal budget. After 12 years of primary and secondary education, they rejected those good students but admitted some mediocre ones into their public universities.
Why? Don't ask me. I also cannot understand. Apparently some kind of social contract signed 40-50 years ago. Malaysia government is like this, always half cooked one. Everything they do will stop or being cancelled half way through. Look at the Johor bridge!
They are good in primary and secondary schools, in fact their standards are almost Singapore standards. But when it comes to tertiary education, they are trashed. No way near us Singapore. Half cooked, about hen!
We in Singapore government only give some scholarships and sometime subsidize some loan interests to attract those intelligent students. These students will study here, do research here, and later graduate and work here as well. We only want those top knowledge workers. Human resources are all we have. Where Singapore got oil like Malaysia!
We really hope the stupid Malaysia will forever keep the current policy of supplying us everything we need - free. It is lucky to have a half cooked neighbour like Malaysia.

Chinese schools are open to all students irrespective of their ethnic and religious background - on one condition - the student must be able to cope with the workload.
Compare grade-to-grade, Chinese school students are much more competitive and mature than national school students. They score better in various fields such as IQ, math and science.
Most important, Chinese school students irrespective of their ethnic background are multi-lingual. Apart from their ability to read speak and write major languages such as Chinese, English and Malay - many of them also managed to master a couple Chinese dialects (e.g. Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew, etc) they pickup from their schoolmates. Isn't that wonderful?
In reality, Chinese school leavers are more adapt easily and mentally prepared to globalization.
When I was a student in the US - it is well known that Malaysians and Singaporeans are the most competitive lots among foreign students. Why?
Sharing the same cultural background, we can speak Cantonese to Hong Kongers, speak Hokkien to Taiwanese, speak Mandarin to Chinese Mainlanders, speak English to the Mat Sallehs and other foreigners - and best of all, we speak malay among ourselves so the rest of the foreigners will not understand of our conversation.
While I do not doubt merits of arguments from both sides, one thing is sure, Chinese schools generally produce higher performance students than national schools.
The students from day one are coached and coached to excel in their exams with never ending homework school days and school holidays while the national schools generally are more relaxed.
I think one have misunderstood DJZ. They do recognize the importance of English, but insist that there are better ways to go about it, such as adding an extra class in English or lengthening the existing English lessons or using the English language for the humanities.
During the 1970s, I gave free tuition in English to my high school students (all of whom had a Chinese primary school background), and when they accompanied me to the states, they'd no problems following their courses.
Several were even offered scholarships up to PhD level, although most started work after their basic engineering degree. Like the Koreans and the Taiwanese, their lack of an English background didn't hinder them from becoming successful businessmen or professionals.
One more point: I think the malay schools are also complaining about the problem of using English for math and science. Considering the level of teaching proficiency in those subjects, it would be appear to be more sensible to add more English classes or lengthen the English periods than to use the current system.
They DJZ fear Chinese will be wiped out. If these students are to be proficient in English, they would be top achievers around, knowing Bahasa, Chinese and English unlike the malays who are only proficient in Bahasa with a little English.
As an employer I would opt for the trilingual Chinese to the monolingual malays anytime. I may have to send him to China - the fastest growing giant of today and may be the bread and butter of many Malaysian Chinese.
Note Chinese businessmen from China are now expanding globally and generating communities globally. Don't miss this opportunity.
In a very difficult environment, all Malaysian Chinese must learn to adept and not cocooned with old traditions and pride.
If malays are not happy in Penang, just leave and go to the more developed states like Kedah, Perlis, Sabah, where you will not be marginalised.

Most political parties are "unbreakable". They will find a scapegoat or common objective/target to unite the party at all costs to hold on to power.
Who cares whether a political party is breakable or unbreakable. They are only there to take care of their members and party interest first, not the ordinary people.
The ordinary people want to see the country and people properly taken care of, e.g. effective and efficient government departments, fair policies, good public facilities and social welfare, increase public safety and less crimes, no corruption and etc.
The Umno Youth act like crazy mobs same as their terrorist counterparts outside the country. They use the loophole in democracy which the little follow the many. Their member are not gullible but just plain evil and vile - they are just waiting for a chance to act.
These can be seen by the future generations in the UPM incidence. The UPM psychos are just the chips of the main Umno Youth block.
This week, I send of a cousin, a friend, a sister and two nephews to the airport who will never return to this country. They are all top graduates or students of top universities in UK and US, some with millions in their bank accounts. These news only convince them they are right and not to look back.
